<p>The unit was established as the 482nd Troop Carrier Wing at Miami IAP, FL in June 1952 with C-46s for just six months before being inactivated. The wing was reformed as the 482nd Fighter-Bomber Wing at Dobbins AFB, GA in May 1955, operating the F-84 and T-33, before converting to the F-86 until the wing was inactivated in November 1957. The 482nd was redesignated as a Tactical Fighter Wing in April 1981 at Homestead AFB, with the F-4C replacing the 915th TFG. Equipment was upgraded to the F-4D in September 1983 and changed to the F-16A in July 1989. Homestead AFB was almost destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in August 1992, with the wing relocating to Wright-Patterson initially, and later MacDill AFB. However, the wing returned following the base was rebuilt.
